Many who visit Rapid City try to schedule their stay around one of our big events! These events include the biggest motorcycle rally, Rodeos and western trade shows, seasonal and festive events as well as free events in Downtown Rapid City. 

1 - Crazy Horse Volksmarch

2 - Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo

The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo® is the second largest event in the state of South Dakota following the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. An estimated attendance of 331,000 people attend the ten day event held annually the last weekend in January to the first weekend in February.

The stock show features 96 different agriculture driven events. Events such as the Ranch Rodeo and Sheep Dog Trials  are crowd favorites. Other events include a two-day horse, ten breeds of cattle shows and sales, the Cinch Trade Show, Buffalo Sale, World's Smallest Rodeo, Sheep Shearing demonstration, Ag Leaders Round-Table Discussion, Ranch Horse Competition, AQHA Horse Shows, Commercial Heifer Show and Sale and much more.

3 - Mount Rushmore Lighting Ceremony

This nightly ceremony takes place every summer beginning in May and ending in September. The event features a video about the history of the monument, honors veterans in attendance and gives all who attend the magnificent experience of viewing Mount Rushmore lit up against the night sky.

4 - Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

The Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally is the experience of a lifetime in a place where local people can still show you a thing or two about hospitality and visiting exhibitors can show you anything and everything you’d want or need to dress you up or dress up your bike. Or heck, demo virtually every kind of bike on the market - custom, V-Twin or metric. It’s like being a kid again, in a candy store. Only better! Because in addition to the bikes there are concerts and races and bike shows, five blocks of Main Street bikes-only street vibe, the Annual Mayor’s Ride, Michael Lichter’s annual exhibit, the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame, organized rides, some pretty impressive watering holes, custom legends, blue skies and warm, sunny days. It’s all waiting for you in Sturgis and the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota.

5 - Hills Alive Festival

20,000 people will gather each day in Rapid City to enjoy the annual FREE Christian festival, which will feature some of the top names in the Christian music industry. There will be activities for the entire family including inflatables and KidZjam shows for children. The festival will be complete with food vendors and merchandise vendors. You won't want to miss this event!!

6 - Festival of Lights Parade

Turn up the holiday spirit with the annual Festival of Lights Parade in Rapid City, South Dakota, which brings over 30,000 people to downtown Rapid City for a dazzling nighttime event. Featuring glowing floats covered in thousands of lights, horse-drawn carriages, animated scenes on flatbed trucks, sparkling vehicles, animals adorned in holiday decor, marching bands, and even a full-size passenger locomotive with over 100,000 lights, the parade has earned its reputation as the premier winter event in South Dakota, with lots of floats, music, food, fun, and more!
