Experience the thrill of the Crazy Horse Memorial® Volksmarch, a event that takes place once in the spring and again in the fall and promises a hike unlike any other. This 6.2-mile hike offers visitors a unique way to experience the world’s largest mountain carving in progress, which is typically only available through the special Face-to-Face Tour.
Packed full of breathtaking views of the carving and surrounding Black Hills, each Volksmarch trail is different providing a fresh perspective and making it memorable for both first-time attendees and repeat explorers. Panoramic views unfold from the top of Crazy Horse's arm as you gaze up at his nine-story-high face or stand next to the world's largest thumbnail. It's an encounter that stays with you forever.
Getting an early start is advised as the trail sees more traffic as the morning progresses – the event starts at 8:00 a.m., with registration opening at 7:00 a.m. Hikers need to register before 1 p.m. and be off the trail by 4 p.m. The regular admission to the memorial can be waved by donating three cans of food, every participate regardless of age will have to pay the American Volkssport Association's hike fee of $4 (cash or check only).
