Visit Rapid City Closes out Strong Year for Business Development

$3 Million Pumped into Rapid’s Economy in 2023 from Meetings

During 2023, Visit Rapid City aided the Rapid City hotel industry in hosting 50 meetings resulting in 5,459 room nights – the third best year on record – and delivered an economic impact of more than $3 million to Rapid City.

“Meetings play an integral role in Visit Rapid City’s strategic marketing efforts,” said Brook Kaufman, CEO of Visit Rapid City. “They help build a strong base to bolster our room nights, while also providing a direct economic shot in the arm to numerous Rapid City businesses.”

Throughout 2023, Rapid City hosted a variety of meeting groups, including the Aglow International, Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund, Western Writers of American, Wild Sheep Foundation, South Dakota Municipal League, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the South Dakota FFA, as well as 12 military reunions to name a few.

“Groups book year-round in Rapid City,” said Tyson Steiger, Director of Sales for Visit Rapid City. “It’s our honor to help groups create memorable meetings in our beloved destination. There’s no place like Rapid City when it comes to hosting a monumental meeting.”

In addition to the meetings that have taken place in 2023, Rapid City is prepping for a banner year in 2024. Projected businesses in the coming calendar year will bring 19,000 room nights to Rapid City lodging properties, as well as an economic impact of $11 million.

A few groups planning to be in Rapid City next year include National Indian Health Board, Society of Commercial Seed, National Alaska Native American Indian Nurses Association, Women on Wheels (WOW), Highpointers Club, World Wilderness Congress, Tau Beta Pi Association, Association of National Park Rangers (ANPR), and the Rocky Mountain Association of Fairs.

Rapid City welcomes groups from various sectors and sizes, including agricultural, medical, government, trade association, fraternal organizations and reunions, with meeting attendance that ranges from 15 to 3,000.
