The official start of summer in Rapid City is marked by different things for different locals. But one that many in town go by is the beginning of the weekly concert series called Summer Nights. Every Thursday night, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, a portion of 7th Street in Downtown Rapid City is closed off to make space for a stage, food vendors, drink vendors and more.
Each week a different band debuts to serenade the crowd. From country bands to rocks bands, they all have one thing in common and that’s getting people to move to the music. You can view the season line-up, once it’s announced, here.
Entrance for Summer Nights is free for all ages. Once inside you can treat yourself to local food vendors or grab a beverage. Happy Hour runs from 5pm to 6pm and the entertainment starts at 6pm and plays until 9pm. This fun event offers a great way to kick off a night in Downtown Rapid City with plenty of options for places to explore in walking distance after the street party comes to an end.
You can hear the music throughout the downtown district, so if you plan to post up on a local patio or play in the fountains at Main Street Square, you can still enjoy the sounds rolling out from 7th street.
Know before you go: Pets are not allowed within the gated area of Summer Nights, with the exception of ADA service animals.
The event started in the summer of 2008 and had around 738 attendees. Fast forward to today and attendance now averages around 7,000.
