A Genuine And Heartwarming Experience At Fort Hays
A new mechanical-looking construction site formed on a hillside at the edge of Rapid City and everybody seemed to be talking about it.

After hearing all the rumors, I finally found a Facebook advertisement for a new “Buffalo Hunt” rollercoaster. I quickly made a reservation to ride this enticing attraction at Fort Hays Chuckwagon.

I had an amazing time flying through many twists and turns on this curvy ride. I also found out that Fort Hays will be adding more fun to the “Buffalo Hunt” rollercoaster by installing an electronic sharpshooter game. Visitors will be able to try their hand at shooting the targets along the track while on the ride. That is such a great idea and I can’t wait to compete against my family for the highest score.

During my visit we also toured everything else this attraction had to offer. This was such a memorable tour because our guide shared wonderful stories about his life as he told us the history of Fort Hays Chuckwagon. It was a heartwarming experience to learn about the family who owned the property. Fort Hays is the location where Dances With Wolves (1990 movie) was filmed and the buildings still located here are original pieces of the set!

In the past, I have driven by this location a million times without stopping and I have to say that I completely underestimated Fort Hays. Not only can you see the movie set but there is also a tin shop where you can make your own dinner plate for the Chuckwagon Supper and Show. This fun family-friendly site also has gold panning, old cars, brick engraving, ice cream and coffee. To remember my experience, I was able to take home a token penny from the old-fashioned penny stretcher. I’ll definitely have to make another stop in the future to enjoy all the activities that are available.
