While the Peter Norbeck National Scenic Byway could technically be driven in a few hours, you'd be robbing yourself of a wild experience if you rushed your journey. It's worth setting aside a full day to truly enjoy the sights and beasts that call this route home. White mountain goats strut their stuff here, alongside the deer and chipmunks you'll likely cross paths with. If you have a soft spot for picture-perfect moments, be sure to pack your camera! 

The 18-mile journey that is the Wildlife Loop begins at the eastern gateway near Custer State Park Visitor Center and wraps around towards the Blue Bell entry on the wild western side of the Park. Anticipate the ride of a lifetime, but remember, it's no rush - give yourself a solid 1.5 to 2 hours to complete this winding wonder or more if you are the photo-taking type.

This scenic drive stretches just over 14 miles, showcasing the highway's unique needle-like granite formations that pierce the sky. As you navigate the twists and turns, climb the switchbacks, and whirl around the pigtails, you'll ascend a breathtaking 2000 feet in elevation. 

Immerse yourself in the charm of diverse landscapes as you pass through areas revealing picturesque views of Cathedral Spires, delightful forests adorned with pine, birch, and aspen, and abundant meadows. Man-made tunnels add an element of surprise and uniqueness to the captivating journey. 

Yes! If you're biking or hauling your bike from a long distance, consider flying into the Rapid City Regional Airport and renting a bike for the rally. Rentals are available right at the airport or at other locations throughout the hills. The Rapid City Regional Airport also adds two direct flights to accommodate event attendees. Direct flights will take place Aug 1, 2, 11 & 12 from Houston and  Aug 1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 11 & 12 from San Francisco.
