Rapid City Kicks Off Summer with New Visitor Center, Trolley Tours and City of Presidents Audio Tour

With the summer travel season around the corner, Visit Rapid City is kicking off the season with a new downtown visitor center, guided trolley tours and a new audio tour for the City of Presidents

“There is no better place for a summer vacation than Rapid City,” said Brook Kaufman, President & CEO of Visit Rapid City. “From catching an event at Main Street Square to visiting iconic national landmarks and seeing incredible artists at work, Rapid has it all.”

To provide the best visitor experience possible, Visit Rapid City is opening a new location for its visitor center. Located at 613 Main Street, the Rapid City Visitor Center opens tomorrow (May 9) and is open daily through October from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Visitor services specialists are on hand to welcome and assist visitors with planning their time in Rapid City and the surrounding area. The visitor center has trip-planning information, maps, itineraries, snacks and apparel. Downtown gift cards can also be purchased at the visitor center. It can be reached at 605-718-8484.

For the second year, the City View Trolley is offering 90-minute narrated tours through downtown Rapid City, the West Boulevard Historic District and other landmarks, like Dinosaur Park and Chapel in the Hills. Tours are offered daily from May 24-September 28, 2024, at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.; tickets are available on cityviewtrolley.com.

New for the 2024 summer season is the City of Presidents Audio Tour. There are two ways to experience the new audio tour – a mobile tour or dial-in tour. Plaques are located at each president and include a number, dial-in information and QR code. The mobile tour has a detailed map and guide to each statue, while the dial-in tour is best accessed through a City of Presidents brochure that can be picked up at the Rapid City Visitor Center.

The City of Presidents began in 2000 when the first four presidents – George Washington, John Adams, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush – were placed. The presidential statues are privately funded, made by a group of local artists and are gifted to the city upon completion. In addition, new presidents are not placed until they are no longer actively involved in politics.

Additional summer vacation ideas include visiting the newly renovated Dinosaur Park, booking a guided tour in Badlands National Park, road tripping through the Black Hills, hiking in the Skyline Wilderness Area, fly-fishing on Rapid Creek, strolling through Art Alley and soaking up the personality of the city at downtown restaurants, shops, museums, breweries and watering holes. Rapid City was named one of the 2024 Family Travel Award Winners by Good Housekeeping; recreate their trip with this four-day itinerary
