Big things are always happening in Rapid City to prepare for a bigger and brighter future. The Monument, formerly known as the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, broke ground in 2019 on their addition of the Summit Arena, paving the way for a new era of events in Rapid City.

More Space

The Summit Arena showcases a new brand new space with an emphasis on flexibility while adding some major eye candy to the existing complex. On the exterior, the design reflects the history and natural environment of the area, featuring copper finishes and rich red tones accented by large glass windows that feature the beauty of Downtown Rapid City and the surrounding Black Hills. Inside, guests will find nearly 250,000 square feet of space and intimate seating --with majority of the seats being located on the south and west ends. This multi-purpose venue features a floor that can be scaled anywhere from 18,000 – 30,000 square feet, providing the flexibility to host center and end stage concerts, family shows, sporting events like multi-court basketball and wrestling tournaments, along with open-floor exhibitions. Additional features also include large-scale load-in/load-out capabilities to accommodate multi-truck and broadcast productions set to take place in the arena.

Opportunity To Grow

This addition of nearly 250,000 square feet opens the door to a new level of entertainment for Rapid City and continued growth for the events already held in the complex. Annual events such as the Black Hills Powwow, Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo, and Rodeo Rapid City can now accommodate more competitors, vendors, and a larger audience of spectators. Rapid City is once again able to cater to popular musical performances and artists with this expansion, allowing for different stage designs and larger audiences. Sporting events like the annual Lakota Nation Invitational held each December, now have the opportunity to recruit and host more games, capitalizing on The Monument’s ability to have multiple courts all under one roof. In addition, open-floor tradeshows and conventions also benefit from this new flexible space, providing them with great options for booths, meeting space, and social gatherings.
