Downtown Rapid City 

Exploring downtown with your pup is easy and fun! They can join you for a colorful stroll through Art Alley, sniff out the presidents residing on each block in the walking tour called the City of Presidents, and even find a slice of doggy heaven in the shade at Main Street Square – however, they aren’t allowed on the turf or in the fountains. If you’re in need of outdoor gear head to Roam’n Around, at the Shops at Main Street Square, where they welcome your four-legged companion to join you in the store. They can also join you in Black Hills Vinyl and Prairie Edge Trading Co

Dinosaur Park

Discover more dog friendly fun visiting the dinosaurs of Rapid City at Dinosaur Park. This free attraction provides a great space to enjoy some fresh air, take in 100 miles views and expel a little energy. 


Bear Country USA

This drive-through wildlife park presents the perfect opportunity for your dog to ride along and spot a variety of wildlife as they roam freely around your vehicle. To help protect the safety of the smaller wildlife and baby animals at Bear Country, dogs are not allowed in the Wildlife Walkway area. 


South Dakota Air & Space Museum

Boasting an impressive display of historic planes and missiles – you’ll be able to tour the outdoor exhibits at the South Dakota Air & Space Museum with your leashed dogs! 


Dinosaur Museum

Every dog loves bones, but you'll find more than just fossils at the Dinosaur Museum! They also feature life-like dinosaurs so you can see what they looked like in real life and so can your pup.

Rapid City offers a variety of dining opportunities where you at your pet will feel right at home. In Downtown Rapid City Murphy’s Pub and Grill is equipped with a large patio, outdoor bar area, great food and cozy atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to kick back and enjoy a meal. Right next door you’ll find the charming patio of Thirsty’s. It offers a more secluded feel with greenery and is locally known for killer burgers and perfectly chilled beer. A few blocks over Tally’s Silver Spoon’s outdoor seating welcomes you and your pup. Known for their delicious breakfast menu it’s a great place to start off your day, but they also offer a delectable lunch and dinner menu. Over at the Shops at Main Street Square you'll find the pet friendly patio of Philly Teds, home to some ridiculously good philly cheesesteaks and chili cheese fries. A little outside of downtown is the tasteful patio space of Juniper. Open for dinner – they create outstanding menu items from locally sourced products.   

Sweet Treats

Facing the fountains at Main Street Square, you can enjoy a sweet treat on the patio of Silver Lining Creamery and treat your dog to a pup cup. Your dog will also love the patio space and vanilla cones being served up at Armadillo's Ice Cream Shoppe. Their flavor of the day soft serve ice cream is a hit for many in town and they also offer a small menu of food items.


Coffee Shops

Another great option offering Main Street Square fountains views is the patio at Alternative Fuel Coffee Shop. They create delicious coffee beverages, smoothies, pastries, a variety of different sandwiches and more. Aussie owned coffee shop called Essence of Coffee offers a few pet friendly outdoor tables so you can relax and sip on some freshly roasted specialty coffee and treat yourself to something delicious off the menu.


Pet Friendly Breweries and Bars

Cheers to making memories with good company –  your dog. Local breweries CohortLost CabinDakota PointWoodland Republic and Zymurcracy all invite you in to try out their flavor creations and bring along your four-legged buddy. The only rules are that your dog remain on their leash, be friendly, and respectable (no barking). For an environment that puts dogs first and humans second, head to Bar K-9. Located inside the Rushmore Mall this indoor dog park is what puppy dreams are made of – they can play away off-leash and you can keep a watchful eye while enjoying an adult beverage.

Pet Friendly Parks and Monuments


Rapid City Parks

From off-leash dog parks to quick in town hikes, Rapid City packs a lot of punch within city limits to keep you and your dog busy and happy. Boasting over 20 miles of trails, Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park is a patch of urban wilderness that’s fun to explore. Located next to Dinosaur Park is the trail system of Skyline Wilderness Area that takes you through ponderosa pines and presents more stunning views of the city skyline and beyond. For some off-leash fun head to Robbinsdale Park where you’ll find a walking path with room to roam, or Braeburn Dog Park where you’re dog can swim in Rapid Creek and make lots of friends. While pets must remain leash at Canyon Lake Park, it’s a fun stop to make with your pup. You can stroll along the path at the waters edge, play in the grass, or just sit back and relax and take it all in. Memorial Park is another great option to explore. You’ll find memorials and exhibits like a piece of the Berlin Wall scattered throughout the park.  

Badlands National Park

Dogs are allowed in Badlands National Park, but there are some restrictions. Dogs are not allowed in the public buildings like the visitor center or on the hiking paths and backcountry areas. They can join you in the developed areas though like the campgrounds, picnic areas and other locations open to motorized vehicles. The parks scenic back roads like Old Northeast Road present a great opportunity to explore with your dog.

Custer State Park

There are countless adventures waiting for you and your pup in Custer State Park. A windows up drive along Wildlife Loop Road, floating and swimming in the cool waters of one of the parks many mountain lakes, and hitting the trails for fresh sights and smells. 

Crazy Horse Memorial®

Leashed pets are welcome to explore the covered porch, the veranda and outdoor areas with their owners at Crazy Horse Memorial®, however they are not permitted to accompany you on the bus to the bottom of the mountain or in the restaurant and snack shop area. They can go into the Welcome Center, Indian Museum of North America©, Theater, and Gift Shop, but they are not allowed to walk on the floors. So you must either carry your pet or put them in a stroller to tour the complex with you. 

Mount Rushmore Memorial

Due to the high volume of visitors that come to take in Mount Rushmore, they do not allow pets past the entrance of the main visitor area. However, the location does get you close enough to snap a few photos of your pup in front of the famous faces. They do offer pet exercise areas at each end of the parking garage where leashed pets can let out a little energy.
