Golf Teams Wanted for Junior-Am Tournament in Rapid City

American Junior Golf Association Championship to be Held September 3-6

Locals are invited to tee it up with some of the nation’s top junior golfers by creating teams and playing in the AJGA Junior-Am Tournament in Rapid City on September 3.

A fundraising golf tournament, the Junior-Am Tournament will be played in a shamble format, with three amateur golfers paired with an elite junior golfer who is participating in the AJGA Junior, where they will participate in competition, networking and mentorship. Teams can be made up of players of any age and do not have to be part of a local club to participate.

“This is a great opportunity for young aspiring local golfers to play with the top golfers of the next generation,” said Domico Rodriguez, Executive Director of the Rapid City Sports Commission. “This tournament will also raise funds that will go to support local Rapid City-area golf clubs.”

This is the first year in a three-year partnership between the Rapid City Sports Commission and the AJGA, as 78 of the best youth golfers will come from across the U.S., as well as three Canadian provinces and five countries will be in Rapid City.

“This Junior-Am Tournament is one of those opportunities that doesn’t come along often,” said Jason Young, Head PGA Golf Professional at the Golf Club at Red Rock. “We’d love to see at least 10 more teams take advantage of this and play with some of the best Junior golfers here at Red Rock.”

Businesses and private individuals are also welcome to sponsor and/or put teams together. To register a team, visit ajga.org.

The following is an overview of the event and its happenings:

  • Wednesday, September 2: AJGA Qualifier. 78 junior golfers will have the opportunity to earn entry into the main field.
  • Thursday, September 3: Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament and Official Practice Round. This will bring together local businesses, local golfers, civic leaders and visiting families to play alongside elite junior athletes, raise money for charity and strengthen community connections.
  • Friday, September 4-Sunday, September 6: 54-Hole Stroke-Play Championship, including an awards ceremony.

The AJGA and Rapid City Sports Commission invite local businesses, volunteers and community partners to play an active role in the championship. Opportunities include sponsorship activation, volunteer participation throughout tournament week and involvement in the Junior-Am—each designed to maximize the event’s economic, charitable and community impact across the region.
