The Rapid City Sports Association (RCSA) and the Rapid City Sports Hall of Fame honor the athletes, coaches, and contributors who’ve left a lasting mark on our local sports scene. Each year, the Hall of Fame Banquet brings together a community that celebrates history, achievement, and the people shaping the future of Rapid City athletics.

2026 Hall of Fame Inductees

College Male Athlete: Simeon Birnbaum

The Stevens alum is one of the best runners in the nation, winning the 2026 Big 10 indoor championship in the 3000- and 5000-meter races, picking up the school record in the 3000-meter.

Athlete: Cooper Bowman

After helping Post 22 capture three state titles and a standout collegiate career, Bowman was a 4th round pick by the Yankees. Currently, he is a second baseman with the Durham Bulls (AAA-Rays).

Independent Athlete: Abbie Cina

In 2025, Cina became the first South Dakota girls lacrosse player to earn USA Lacrosse All-American honors. The Central product will continue her career at Midland University (NAIA).

Special Olympics: Nate Dickerson

A true multi-sport athlete, Nate has competed for the Rapid City Flame for the last 13 years in six different sports. Nate is headed to the 2026 SO National Games in June for bocce.

Mines Female Athlete: Lexi Glendenning

From Parker, CO, the outside hitter made an immediate impact for the Hardrockers volleyball team, earning her a starting role as a freshman and contributing nightly both on offense and defense.

Independent Athlete: Owen Johnson

Johnson is the most decorated male swimmer for the Rushmore Swim Team, picking up 6 individual state titles in the last 12 months. He'll continue his swimming career at Wagner College (NCAA D-I).

RCSA Member: Cassie Kosiba

Kosiba, the Senior AAD and Senior Woman Administrator at South Dakota Mines, spearheaded the strong partnership between Mines Athletics and the RCSC through student-athlete volunteer opportunities.

Contributor: Dick Novak

Novak retired from coaching in 2025 after dedicating more than 20 years to the Rushmore Thunder, capturing four state titles and helping build the program into the powerhouse it is today.

Contributor: Craig Nowotny

Nowotny spent nearly 30 years as the Athletics Director at St. Thomas More. Under his leadership, STM won 30 state championships across multiple sports, including the Cavs' first football state title.

High School Male Athlete: Broeden Sales

The STM senior football star was named named 1st Team All-State and the State 11B Championship Game Outstanding Back. In the fall, he'll suit up for Northwestern College (IA).

High School Female Athlete: Amity Strand

One of South Dakota's most decorated prep players, Amity is a 2025 State A Singles Champion and led STM to a team state title. Next season, she'll play at the University of Sioux Falls (NCAA D-II).

College Female Athlete: Haleigh Timmer

The STM grad was a standout at South Dakota State before transferring to Big 12 Oklahoma State for her senior year. Averaged 11.5 PPG and 1.9 APG while shooting 42% from three with the Cowgirls.

Coach: Kelvin Torve

The Rapid City native spent 58 years in the game of baseball. After a brief MLB career, he moved to coaching, including leading Post 22 to a 162-52 record and three state championships over 8 years.
