Look for the Yellow Shirts

If you've spent time in Downtown Rapid City between May and September, chances are you've spotted them.

They're the friendly faces in bright yellow shirts walking the sidewalks, answering questions, sharing local recommendations, and helping visitors and residents make the most of their time downtown.

The Downtown Ambassadors program is a seasonal hospitality initiative funded through the Mayor's Office and designed to enhance the downtown experience for everyone who visits, works, and lives in the heart of Rapid City.

Your Downtown Resource Team

From finding the nearest parking lot to recommending a local restaurant, the Downtown Ambassadors are here to help.

Operating seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., ambassadors walk throughout the downtown corridor, providing information, distributing community resources, and serving as a welcoming point of contact for anyone with questions.

Whether you're looking for directions, searching for a local attraction, curious about upcoming events, or simply need a recommendation from someone who knows the city well, our ambassadors are ready to assist.

By the Numbers

Every year, our Ambassador team talks with thousands of visitors from across the country and around the world.

Those conversations range from helping first-time visitors navigate downtown to connecting residents with local events, businesses, and community resources. Every interaction helps create a more welcoming and accessible downtown experience.

More Than Directions

The Downtown Ambassadors do more than answer questions.

They help visitors discover hidden gems, encourage exploration of local businesses, provide event information, distribute maps and handouts, and serve as a visible, approachable presence throughout downtown.

For many visitors, an ambassador is one of the first people they meet in Rapid City. Their local knowledge, friendly attitude, and willingness to help leave a lasting impression and help showcase the hospitality that defines our community.
