Culinary Crusade

When you get to your destination, you’re bound to be hungry. Finding a local favorite in a new city is half the fun. With a new Rapid City culinary experience around every corner, there’s a high probability you won’t know where to begin. Below are a few options for breakfast, lunch and dinner guaranteed to hit the spot.

BREAKFAST

SANDWICH SHOP

There’s no better way to start the day and Rapid City has great breakfast options. Black Hills Bagels is a local favorite. Before the sun rises, these bagels are carefully baked. Each bagel receives the same attention as the next to create a fresh and delicious breakfast. A full coffee shop accompanies the bagels, catering to those who feel coffee is a must. They offer signature breakfast sandwiches as well as a variety of cream cheeses. Not a breakfast person? Try a signature lunch sandwich or build your own.

LUNCH

FAMILY DINING

Sometimes all you want is a warm plate of blueberry pancakes. Luckily, Tally’s Silver Spoon serves breakfast items until 2 p.m., giving guests permission to consume pancakes for lunch. The pancakes are an original recipe from Tally herself, who opened this little diner in 1930. It has since been transformed into a fine diner while keeping it family friendly and full of everything the locals love. If breakfast for lunch isn’t your thing, Silver Spoon lunch specials are made with lettuces and produce grown specifically for Tally’s Silver Spoon by a local farm. This old Rapid City favorite is the perfect balance of new ideas combined with classics.

PUB & GRILL

Speaking of classics, Murphy’s Pub & Grill keeps their history alive as the oldest pub in Downtown Rapid City. Located in a historic building, their original lunch and dinner specials are always a good choice. Think about Buffalo Meatloaf with portabella mushrooms, house bourbon ketchup, and fried onions on sourdough. If your mouth isn’t watering, it should be! They also have a full-service bar and a variety of starters to tie you over until your meal arrives!

DINNER

FINE DINING

Perhaps your favorite childhood memories consisted of nursery rhymes like Humpty Dumpty and The Three Little Pigs. Kōl in Downtown Rapid City brings those memories back to life by creating unique pizzas like the Humpty Dumpty and Notorious P.I.G. using sauce, cheese, the freshest toppings and a 1,200 degree coal fired oven. Aside from their famous pizza, late in the evening, their space is transformed into a dance club and bar.

A tour in South Dakota wouldn’t be complete without a taste of cowboy culture. Dakotah Steakhouse mixes western heritage and food the way they should be. Settle into a cozy lodge style environment and order local menu items like the pheasant poppers and buffalo ribs or perfectly seared steaks from sirloin to a tender Filet Mignon. When dinner is over indulge in Kuchen, South Dakota’s state dessert. You don’t need spurs to enjoy a delicious meal.

ETHNIC

From watching exciting hibachi performances at Fuji Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar to taking your taste buds on a Mediterranean journey at The Gyro Hub, the options for impressive ethnic culinary options go on and on. Que Pasa Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar in Downtown Rapid City, will pleasantly surprise you with mouthwatering authentic Mexican cuisine including everything from chips and salsa to smothered enchiladas. Pair that with a margarita and you’re sure to be in foodie paradise!

If you’re looking for ethnic cuisine on the finer side, you’ll find Botticelli Ristorante Italiano just down the street from Main Street Square. This little Italian restaurant has received high praises on Trip Advisor, like…

I have eaten at Botticelli often with family and friends for lunch and dinner. It has always been a very enjoyable dining experience with knowledgeable/friendly staff, very fine Italian food and a great wine list!”  - Trip Advisor Contributor

Your stomach will thank you for the delicious flavors found in their bread and balsamic vinegar to their Crispy Bruschetta. Old Italy has competition in Rapid City.

DINNER THEATER

Prepare for a lot of music and a little comedy while enjoying a classic Chuckwagon Supper at Fort Hayes Old West Town & Dinner Show. Bring your cowboy boots and an appetite for things like Chuckwagon Potatoes, Sliced Beef Simmered in BBQ Sauce, Western Baked Beans and Old-Fashioned Spice Cake. The supper and show starts 6:30 p.m. nightly, but you’ll want to arrive early to explore the Oscar award winning movie set, Dances with Wolves, The South Dakota Movie Museum and the Fort Hays Workshops.

DESSERT

SPECIALTY

In Rapid City, we always give you permission to indulge. Armadillos Ice Cream Shoppe Inc. has been a locally owned favorite since it first opened its doors in 1996. They’ve been known to have a line out the door nearly every night and are gearing up for the grand opening of their new and bigger location early Spring 2017. Looking for another Rapid City original? The Silver Lining Creamery at Main Street Square speaks personality with unique and small batch creative flavors each time you stop. Recently named one of The Best Ice Cream Shops In The Midwest, you'll find flavors like Lavender Honey and Space Hippie. Ice cream and waffle cones are made in-house filling the creamery with a sweet aroma. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself lingering inside.

It’s always nice to see how treats are made. Mostly Chocolates offers fine gourmet chocolates and other treats made fresh every day! You can even take a tour of their facility where chocolate samples and creativity are always flowing.
