The Museum of Geology, located on the South Dakota School of Mines &; Technology campus, is a leader in conserving the rich geological heritage of South Dakota and the Black Hills by collecting, researching and housing the unique and often rare resources. Extensive exhibits focus on paleontology - including mounted skeletons of dinosaurs, mammals, White River Badlands fossils, marine reptiles and fish - and mineralogy - including the Hall of South Dakota Minerals, meteorites, ores and a fluorescent mineral room. Opportunities for summer field paleo classes. Summer hrs. (starting May 1): Mon.-Sat., 9-6; Winter hrs. (starting Sept. 1): Mon.-Sat., 8:30-4; Closed Sundays and all federal holidays. Guided tours are available for groups - please call ahead to schedule. The gift shop offers unique toys, books, apparel, gifts, geology tools, and museum guidebooks. The Museum of Geology is part of the <a href="/whattodo/citytourhistoricdistrict/">Rapid City Historic District Tour</a>.
