The Sculpture Project: Passage of Wind and Water is a major public art project at Main Street Square in Downtown Rapid City. Stone sculptor Masayuki Nagase carved 21 massive granite pieces on site during the summer months over five years, beginning summer 2013 and completed in summer 2017. The artist's design depicts the natural history of the Black Hills and Badlands, and the project connects with the region's spectacular granite carving tradition. Nagase trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tokyo and has worked internationally as a stone sculptor for 30 years.
