• He was one of two presidents to not accept the salary. Instead, he donated it to charity
• Approved the “Star-Spangled Banner” as the national anthem
• Only seven months after taking office the value in the U.S.  stock market dropped drastically sending the economy downward, marking the start of the Great Depression.
