• He signed a bill while in office establishing a future and permanent U.S. capital, the city was later called Washington D.C. in his honor
• He signed the proclamation making November 26th a national day of Thanksgiving
• Washington’s farewell address when he left office is still read each February in the U.S. Senate to celebrate his birthday
