With six national parks and monuments close by, you’ll find a wide variety of ways to appreciate America’s first 100 years of park stewardship. From the dazzling depths of Jewel Cave to the dizzying heights of Devils Tower, from the otherworldly mood of the Badlands to the familiar faces of Mount Rushmore, from the baffling complexity of Wind Cave to the powerful history of the Minuteman Missile Silo, love for our National Parks takes many forms in the Black Hills.
In fact, few places in the nation are as beloved and well known as Mount Rushmore, which prepares to celebrate its own milestone this fall. Rapid City has been gearing up for this big anniversary year for many months now, launching the #MyRushmore photo project and piecing together the best of the Black Hills to ensure a vacation that’s tailor-made for those who love the great outdoors. With our National and State Parks providing unforgettable settings for hiking, biking, rock climbing and much more, it’s prime time for outdoor adventure. Don't believe us? Check out our Parks, Monuments and Memorials Itinerary for two full days of exploring.
Whether you add a visit to The Journey Museum & Learning Center to pick up some knowledge about the Black Hills and its natural history, or stop by unique shopping destinations to pick up treasures like Native American arts and crafts or Black Hills Gold, it’s easy to balance your Park adventures with modern comforts in Rapid City.
