Custer State Park Annual Buffalo Roundup

Feel the thunder and join the herd at the annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup. Watch cowboys and cowgirls as they roundup and drive the herd of approximately 1,300 buffalo (number of animals vary depending on rangeland conditions). Not only is the roundup a spectacular sight to see, it is also a critical management tool in maintaining a strong and healthy herd.

The actual Buffalo Roundup will begin at 9:30 a.m. Guests must stay in the viewing areas until the herd is safely in the corrals, generally around noon.

We are excited to announce that the 4th annual Rapid City Truck Convoy for Special Olympics South Dakota will be at Black Hills Harley-Davidson this year! The Truck Convoy is an event that is held every September for drivers across the state and region to gather together to drive their big rigs on a designated route in an effort to raise money and public awareness for Special Olympics. Many of these drivers are accompanied by Special Olympic athletes during this trek.

Crazy Horse Autumn Volksmarch

This autumn hike on Sunday, October 1 is held the same weekend as the Custer State Park Buffalo Round-Up. It is the public’s second chance of the year to walk up the world’s largest mountain carving in progress.

The Crazy Horse Volksmarch is the most popular organized hike in the United States (15,000 walkers in a record year). This family event is sponsored by the Black Hills Chapter of the American Volksmarch Association (AVA) and hosted by Crazy Horse Memorial.
