Legends in Light, the laser-light program project on the Mountain Carving, illuminates our cultural diversities, celebrates our similarities and encourages harmony among people.

For the 2017 season, the show will be played nightly starting on May 26 - October 1.

September Moon Walk: Star Gazing

This walk is located in the central Black Hills west of Deerfield Reservoir. Be ready to discover the universe with telescopes and a cell phone APP while guided by a physics professor and students from Black Hills State University under this "new moon" night. 

Moon Walks are held on a Saturday night close to the official full moon and begin at 7:00pm. Most Moon Walks last from 1-2 hours.

Custer State Park Annual Buffalo Roundup

Feel the thunder and join the herd at the annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup. Watch cowboys and cowgirls as they roundup and drive the herd of approximately 1,300 buffalo (number of animals vary depending on rangeland conditions). Not only is the roundup a spectacular sight to see, it is also a critical management tool in maintaining a strong and healthy herd.

The actual Buffalo Roundup will begin at 9:30 a.m. Guests must stay in the viewing areas until the herd is safely in the corrals, generally around noon.
