FAQ: Outdoor Meeting Spaces in Rapid City
Combine the beauty of Rapid City’s parks and outdoor spaces with your groups meeting and convention! With a variety of outdoor oases located all over town, it can be a challenge to know where to start. To help with this, we asked a few common planning questions to the Rapid City Parks and Recreation’s Special Events staff worker.
Q: What outdoor venues does Rapid City have for groups to utilize from 50-500 people?
A: Rapid City Parks & Recreation have six shelters (four at Canyon Lake Park, one at Old Storybook Island, and one at Robbinsdale Park). These are great for smaller groups. For larger groups, the Memorial Bandshell located in Memorial Park is a beautiful option that can be reserved. For the larger groups, we ask you to fill out our Special Event Application Form.
Q: What groups have utilized Rapid City’s parks in the past?
A: Rapid City Parks and Recreation has worked with the Council of Chief State School Officers, Black Hills Mountain Fest, South Dakota Senior Games, local church groups, and more.
Q: What type of events would work the best at our park locations?
A: Past groups/organizations have done a variety of events at our parks ranging from yoga to live music.
Q: How does the reservation process work?
A: To reserve a shelter, please call our office at 605-394-4175 to see if we have availability at any of the seven shelters, they book up fast! If you need to fill out a special event application, you would work with our Special Events staff worker.
