At 2:30 on the morning of August 3, 1923, while visiting in Vermont, Calvin Coolidge received word that he was president. By the light of a kerosene lamp, his father, who was a notary public, administered the oath of office as Coolidge placed his hand on the family Bible. He is shown with his big Stetson hat and cowboy boots and is standing next to a saddle that was made especially for him by Rapid City saddle maker Bud Duhamel, The Duhamel family still resides in Rapid City and owns a local radio and television station. The artist John Lopez, is well known nationally for his western art and sculpture so this was truly a labor of love for John. http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents/calvincoolidge
