Educational Opportunities in the Black Hills

The Black Hills offers visitors a hands-on look at the rich history and culture of South Dakota. At Bear Country U.S.A. get an up-close encounter with mountain lions, wolves, elk, bobcats and bighorn sheep in addition to the bear population. Reptile Gardens features one of the largest reptile collections in the world. The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs is an active excavation site featuring fossils of over 50 Columbian mammoths near Hot Springs. The Journey Museum features artifacts and exhibits of Black Hills history spanning thousands of years and the Museum of Geology features an enormous collection of fossils and minerals from the Black Hills and the surrounding area.
