The Goal of the Sports & Events niche of the Rapid City Convention and Visitors Bureau’s is to work with local, state, regional and national associations to encouraging them to bring sporting events and competitions to Rapid City. To ensure this, the CVB works with local organizations to market their events outside of Rapid City through various marketing efforts with the help of the Rapid City Sports Council. 
The Sports Council offers a marketing grant to those who qualify to help bring events to Rapid City and/or grow existing events.

A variety of shows are attended such as NASC and TEAMS in an effort to meet and mingle with event coordinators from all across the United States informing them that Rapid City is an ideal location for their events.

Some important highlights, when promoting Rapid City as a host city:

• 5,400 sleeping rooms in Rapid City
• 175,000 sq. ft. of event space at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center including an Ice Arena
• The ability to use the Central States Fairgrounds as a possible multi-use host site
• Support and help of local sports organizations and the Parks & Recreation Department
• Rapid City can offer a variety of terrains within a short distance that can fit any event
• Mount Rushmore National Memorial is located just 25 miles from Rapid City.
• Black Hills are home to the highest concentration of parks, monuments and memorials in the world.
• Four major airlines - with frequent daily connections through Minneapolis, Denver, Salt Lake City, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Chicago, as well as regular flights to Las Vegas and Mesa/Phoenix.
• Numerous restaurants, both casual and fine dining
• Eight softball fields and multiple soccer fields available at Star of the West Complex
• Multipurpose facilities including a stadium at Sioux Park Complex
• Twelve tennis courts, four softball fields and water park available at Parkview Sports Complex
