Located about 60 miles from the geographic center of the United States, Rapid City is ideally located for visitors coming from the east or the west. You can get to Rapid City by air, car or motor coach.

By Car or Motorcoach

U.S. Interstate 90 is the main route for driving to the Black Hills, but you can also enter the area on east-west highways US 16, US 18, US 212, SD 34 or SD 40; and north-south highways US 85, US 385 and SD 79. The South Dakota Department of Transportation keeps all highways in excellent driving condition, even during hard winters. If you want to check current driving conditions, call 605-394-2243.


By Air

Rapid City Regional Airport is the commercial airline hub for the Black Hills. It is serviced by Allegiant Air, American Airlines/American Eagle, Delta Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and United Airlines. Private charters also land at state-approved airports in Hot Springs, Custer, Wall, Sturgis, Spearfish, Sundance and Belle Fourche.
