Music in the Park - Rapid City Municipal Band

The Rapid City Municipal Band will present their eighth and final concert of the 2010 season this Wednesday evening, July 28, at 8:00 in the Memorial Park Bandshell with Bill Evans as conductor. The famous masterwork for band, “Suite in F” by Gustav Holst opens the concert, followed by one of J.S. Bach’s most beloved works, “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring”. Vocalists Anella and Clayton Southwick are featured in a collection of Irving Berlin’s most well known songs, including “Blue Skies “and “Always”. The flute section solos on Massenet’s tender “Meditation” from his opera “Thais’, and march lovers are treated to “Washington Grays” by Grafulla. The band concludes its 2010 season with the expansive full brass chords of Sibelius’ magnificent Finlandia, and an “Old Scottish Melody” better know as “Auld Lang Syne.” All Municipal Band concerts are sponsored by the city of Rapid City with free admission to the public.
