The Range Days Rodeo was presented with the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association’s (WPRA) Justin Best Footing Award for the Badlands Circuit for 2009. The presentation was made in Las Vegas during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
The award is voted on by the barrel race contestants in the Badlands Circuit made up of all rodeos in North and South Dakota. The award is based on the quality of ground or “footing” for the barrel race horses. Justin Boots presents a pair of full-quill ostrich boots to the winning committee along with a check for $1,000.
Range Days Rodeo works with volunteer personnel from Ellsworth Air force Base and the South Dakota National Guard to hand rake the rodeo arena around each barrel after each contestant makes a run so that the ground is even for the every contestant. This volunteer effort has proven effective as the Range Days Rodeo has won the award four times.
The dates for the 2010 Range Days Rodeo are August 27-29. For more information contact the Central States Office at 605-355-3861.

The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo is pleased to announce the addition a new event for the 2010 show. The South Dakota Rodeo Association (SDRA) will hold a two performance rodeo on Friday, January 29th and Saturday, January 30th at 4 pm at the Pennington County Event Center.
The Central States Fair (producers of the BHSS) hosted the SDRA for their finals competition in October and the response was exceptional. The event drew more people than that of any previous SDRA Finals. “I believe we were able to host the SDRA in a fashion that truly showed our western hospitality”, said Pam Teller, Assistant General Manager of Central States Fair. The result was a subsequent contract for two more years of finals competition in Rapid City.
“In our discussions of how we could better serve the needs of the SDRA, we learned they were very interested in holding a membership drive rodeo during the BHSS.

The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo has announced a new event for the 2010 show. Wednesday, February 3rd will feature the “Professional Saddle Bronc Championships” at the Pennington County Events Center starting at 7 pm. The event is part of a three stop series which will feature the top contestants from the NFR and the top competitors in the Badlands Circuit which is comprised of North & South Dakota in the PRCA circuits.
This event will bring cowboys like JJ Elshere, Ryan Elshere, Jeff Willert, Wade Sundell, and Chad Ferley, among others to match up on NFR bucking stock.
The match will have a three round format beginning with 25 contestants and advancing the top 12 to the second round. The top 6 of this round will advance to the finals. This will give the audience a chance to watch these professionals on three mounts in the same night. It will truly be a test for these top competitors as they compete for over $10,000 in prize monies.
“The concept for the event is to match our best circuit cowboys against the best in the NFR with each having an equal chance to win because our bucking stock will be even for everyone,” said Branden West, one of the organizers of the event. Burch Rodeo Company from Rozet, WY and Korkow Rodeos from Blunt, SD will provide the stock including many of the NFR bucking stock.
The other two events in the series are the Casey Tibbs Match of Champions held in Ft Pierre on Saturday, June 5th and the Philip Invitational Saddle Bronc Match in Philip on Friday, June 19th. Both of these events will also have over $10,000 in prize monies and top NFR stock.
Advance discount tickets are available at Family Thrift Stores in Rapid City or online for the February 3rd event. For a schedule of events go to www.blackhillsstockshow.com
